生平

丹第出生於巴黎的一個貴族家庭，先學習法律[1]，後又在巴黎音樂學院隨作曲家塞扎爾·弗蘭克學習音樂。他是華格納的崇拜者，1876年，他參加了第一屆拜羅伊特音樂節[2]。丹第十分關注音樂教育，1894與人一起創辦了巴黎聖樂學校（en:Schola Cantorum），與巴黎音樂學院分庭抗禮。他教過的學生中有很多都是20世紀的重要作曲家。1931年丹第在巴黎去世。
音樂

丹第的音樂風格深受華格納等人的影響，同時也積極從民歌當中吸取養分。他最有名的作品大概要數《法國山歌交響曲》（en:Symphony on a French Mountain Air）了，這部作品又稱《塞文山交響曲》，運用了取自法國塞文山脈地區的民歌素材，用鋼琴和樂隊演奏，充滿浪漫主義氣息。[3]此外他的著名作品還有受華格納風格影響濃重的歌劇《菲伐爾》（en:Fervaal）等。
