不像搖滾樂，藍調歌手在一甲子年紀的風霜過後，總還是可以一再帶來驚奇。出身美國密西根州，本名Betty Haskin的Bettye LaVette在15歲左右的年紀便在芝加哥的酒館引起很大的話題。16歲他就被當地廠牌簽下錄製試唱帶，隨即獲得大廠Atlantic的興趣，後來還加入60年代一時風騷的藍調雙人組合Don Gardner & Dee Dee Ford參與他們巡迴的客席歌手。 她在70年那段走過百老匯的黃金年代，也在80年當過迪斯可場景爭相邀唱的靈騷女聲。60年代就登上節奏藍調金榜的往事對她來講似乎不算什麼，中間連著好幾年忙於現場演出，80年代和90年代幾乎都在現場演出中度過，一直到2000年發行一張於費城的現場專輯《Don Gardner & Dee Dee Ford》叫好叫座，她重新考慮了以錄音創作發行唱片的型式，接連於'03到'06年間，年年都有水準以上的佳作。

The success of this performance lead to another astonishing moment on the national stage, her duet of Sam Cooke s Change Is Gonna Come with Jon Bon Jovi at the Obama Inaugural Concert.
