    Dire Straits（恐惧海峡乐队）于1977年的乐队成立于英国伦敦，78年推出了首张单曲与唱片取得了不俗的成绩。Dire Straits的风格比较多样包括流行摇滚、布鲁斯摇滚、民谣摇滚等。但他们的音乐始终都融合了爵士与民谣和浓浓的蓝调味道，表演极为质朴而有内涵。所以虽然是电声音乐但依然能带给我们美好温馨的感受。

那种清新淡泊、浪漫脱俗中带些淡淡的忧郁更是让人陶醉。Dire Straits的灵魂人物是吉它兼主唱马克· 诺弗勒（Mark Knoptler），他同时也是歌曲的主要创作人。

    如果你是玩吉他的特别是玩电吉他的，即使你不知道Dire Straits但你对Mark Knoptler一定不会陌生的。他在电吉他领域可以说是一位不折不扣的大师级人物了。

    我想也许是因为风格的原因,“恐怖海峡”录制的唱片通常缺乏一般摇滚作品所具有的的令人热血沸腾的激烈，往往是给人一种深沉的民谣味道。他们也因而受到一些批评，特别是Mark Knoptler的天赋也遭到了怀疑。

    进入90年代后Dire Straits似乎遭到更多的是挫折，直到93年解散。但是一首《Brother In Arms》已经足以让他们在摇滚圣殿上刻下自己的名字，他让人们品味了质朴纯真的感动。
