With his latest release, When I Remember, Steinway Artist Kevin Kern pays tribute to the rich musical traditions and stylistic influences that continue to inspire his unique creativity and signature sound.

Kevin Kern has always been a composer at heart. While he enjoyed learning to play the music of Mozart, Chopin and Bach, and later that of Gershwin, Ellington and the other masters of "The Great American Songbook," the enjoyment he received from playing that music was nothing compared to the thrill that came every time he created something new.

In composing the pieces for this collection, Kevin decided to reach back to his roots and draw on the richly diverse influences that played such an important part in guiding the development of his musical voice. These included the classical works he studied as a child, the jazz standards that made powerful impressions on him throughout his age years, as well as the beautifully written popular songs he came to appreciate in hood. Each song on this CD is inspired by, or meant to evoke a particular style of music that resonated with him emotionally at one time or another. "No matter what inspired them, each song represents an important part of me. And all of these parts have come together to make the whole musician I have become."
