      亨德尔的《钱多斯赞美歌》（钱多斯又译“川度斯”、再“雷”一点的更译为“钱多死”），HWV246-256，共11首，作于1717－1720年间。1710年，亨德尔任后来的英国乔治一世的乐队指挥，随后曾访问伦敦，1712年在英国定居，并每年从皇室领取200英镑的薪俸。在伦敦生活的头几年里，因得到年轻而富有的伯林顿伯爵理查•玻意耳的赏识，亨德尔成为其门客之一。随后亨德尔担任了卡纳封伯爵府的临时音乐指导，卡纳封伯爵（Earl of Carnarvon）后被封为钱多斯公爵（Duke of Chandos），公爵府在米德尔塞克斯靠近埃奇韦厄（Edgware）的地方，名卡农斯（Cannons）。亨德尔的一生中，在卡农斯生活的这段时间是最为写意的，日子过得无忧无虑，而此时所作的《钱多斯赞美歌》更为其以后的其它合唱作品的创作打下了坚实的基础。罗曼•罗兰对这些赞美歌曾有高度评价，认为它们与亨德尔的清歌剧有着同等的重要性。这些赞美歌为三声部合唱的短小康塔塔，由双簧管、弦乐和管风琴伴奏。
      本盘为《钱多斯赞美歌》的卷一部分，收有第一、第二、第三号，由克里斯托夫（Harry Christophers）指挥，十六合唱团及乐团（The Six & Orchestra）演绎，企鹅三星评介。十六合唱团是一个以演唱早期的宗教音乐为主的英国合唱团，由英国指挥家哈利•克里斯托夫于1977年创办。合唱团成员主要是牛津、剑桥大学合唱团的前成员。2000 年，他们进行了名为“合唱朝圣之旅”的活动，在都铎式历史建筑里演出都铎时代的古代音乐作品，此后更每年都举办这个活动，足迹遍及英国10多处历史建筑。合唱团拥有自己的录音厂牌（CORO）和自己的管弦乐团。而CHANDOS公司因以Chandos命名，自然也不会放过亨德尔的这个作品了。
