Rita Coolidge (Cherokee), a two time Grammy winner, is an enduring talent blessed with radiant Native American beauty. Her recording career has spawned over several dozen albums worldwide including a multi-platinum disc. She is one of the most versatile singers of the rock generation. In 1997, Coolidge was one of the founding members of Walela, a Native American music trio. Walela means hummingbird in Cherokee. Rita s most heartfelt commitment remains to the Native American community. The commitment to her Cherokee heritage carries through her life, If we have the vision and the dream, anything can come true.
Kevin Locke (Hunkpapa Band of Lakota Sioux and Anishinabe), a Grammy nominee, is known throughout the world as a visionary Hoop Dancer, the preeminent player of the indigenous Northern Plains Flute, a traditional storyteller, cultural ambassador, recording artist and educator. Kevin was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), which recognized him as a Master Traditional Artist who has contributed to the shaping of our artistic traditions and to preserving the cultural diversity of the United States. Kevin s goal is to raise awareness of the oneness we share as human beings. His belief in the unity of human kind is expressed dramatically in the traditional hoop dance which illustrates the roles and responsibilities that all human beings have within the hoops (or circles) of life.
Producer/Composer PETER KATER has worked deeply and extensively with many musicians from many cultures and traditions around the world. In addition to receiving multiple Grammy nominations and the Environmental Leadership Award from the United Nations, he s performed world-wide and written music for over 100 television and film programs, 11 On & Off-Broadway dramatic plays and he s produced over 50 CD s.
