Back to the Cat is the work of one of the most original, inventive, distinctive
voices in British contemporary music at the height of his considerable powers.
With a full consignment of brass and strings and a wealth of musicology behind
him, Barry Adamson is about to take you on an epic adventure in sound.

Adamson's eighth album is where it all comes together: a life's passions poured
into ten tracks that at once sound strangely familiar and dazzlingly new. A musical
odyssey through noir jazz, sun-drenched pop ballads, fractious urban funk, devilish
gospel, heavenly blues, and subversive soul ... not to mention a Hammond organ salute
to the late, great Jimmy Smith.

As befits the man who invented the idea of the imaginary soundtrack album with his
1988 solo debut Moss Side Story, every song is rendered in vivid widescreen, with
a narrative as compulsive as an Alfred Hitchcock chiller. With a wicked sense of
humor and a beady eye for detail, Adamson charts the complexity and duplicity of
human nature, often deliberately contrasting stories with sounds.

From a late-sixties Bacharach swinger and a mournful steel guitar breathing a
country sigh to a heady gospel lament from an incarcerated Prince of Darkness,

这些年来另类与主流的分野日渐模糊，许多原本只靠口耳相传的小众乐手也跃上国际舞台。
然而却难免出现让人久仰大名，却未能获得国内唱片公司青睐进口的遗珠之憾，英国晦暗
阴郁乐派的首席代表Barry Adamson即为一例。虽然唱片公司后来曾经发行他2002年的优秀
专辑《幻境之王—The King Of Nothing Hill》，他早期几张经典专辑却是，台湾乐迷始
终难以入手的梦幻逸品。Barry Adamson对于热爱另类音乐的朋友肯定不陌生，他是经典乐
队Magazine的创团贝斯手，也曾经是Nick Cave & Bad Seeds的一员。1989年他首度以个人
名义发表第一张个人专辑《Moss Side Story》，这才让人正视Barry Adamson折衷多元的
音乐才华，揉和Jazz、Funk、Soul、Hip Hop、Rock甚至是电子音乐，Barry Adamson陆续
以多张专辑打造出他风格独具的黑暗王国。
