Gloria Gaynor1949年生于新泽西州的一个小镇。1974年发行舞曲专辑引起轰动。1975年被全美迪斯科舞厅DJ联盟选为迪斯科女王。不久这个光环很快被Donna Summer抢走。
    之后，不幸接踵而来。1978年春天她在欧洲登台时跌落舞台导致脊髓受损，卧床达9个月之久，复健期间母亲又去世，连续的打击几乎让她崩溃。康复后她努力振作，特意演唱"I Will Survive"证明自己战胜困难的决心和勇气。
    这首歌的推出将她的事业推上巅峰。1978年12月这首歌成为冠军单曲，并蝉联6周之久。许多歌星都翻唱过此歌，多部电影把此歌作为插曲。此歌被滚石评为100首最伟大的音乐作品之一。
