來自愛爾蘭的克里斯迪伯夫是公認的說故事高手，由於父親任職於英國外交部，他從小得以藉父親工作之便，遊歷歐洲各國，因而對中古世紀歐洲的各種傳說產生濃厚的興趣。
70年代他一出道，便以優雅洗鍊的文字和浪漫淒美的旋律，訴說許多中古世紀的傳奇故事，結合搖滾的強勁力道與管絃樂的柔美，打動了無數歐洲歌迷的心，此一時期最成功的作品，首推：「十字軍」( Crusaders )、「西班牙列車與其他故事」( Spanish train & other stories )兩張專輯。
由於音樂風格不符美國聽眾口味，克里斯迪伯夫的音樂版圖多侷限在歐洲。不過在1987年的專輯「Into the light」中有一首單曲"The lady in red"竟然打入美國排行，這首描述他和妻子初次見面，在舞會上翩然起舞的唯美情歌，最後升到排行亞軍，也是他最受歡迎的一首歌曲。
