Bruce Springsteen是美國70年代以來大紅大紫的搖滾樂巨星之一。到了90年代，他依然光彩照人，餘音嫋嫋。

1949年9月23日，Bruce Springsteen出生於美國新澤西洲(New Jersey)的費裏霍爾德(Freehold)。1963年開始學彈吉它。1965年他加入了凱斯泰爾樂隊，參與了專輯《那是你將要得到了》。凱斯泰爾樂隊宣佈解散後，Bruce Springsteen在其他幾個樂隊裏又陸續待了3年。

1971年組建了經自己名字命名的樂隊。它在1973年發展成爲著名的東大街樂隊(the E.Street Band)，主要成員包括鍵盤手大衛.山休斯(David Sancious)、電貝斯手加利.泰倫特(Gary Tallent)、風琴手丹尼.費德裏奇(Danny Fedrici)、架子鼓手維尼.洛佩茲(Vivi Lopez)、薩克斯風演奏手克萊倫斯.克萊蒙斯(Clarence Clemmons)等人。

1973年1月，Bruce Springsteen的首張專輯《來自阿斯貝裏公園的祝福》(Greeting from Asbary Park)面世。但是這些源於民謠的歌曲並未引起樂迷的興趣，唱片僅銷售出5萬多張。同年，11月的專輯《野蠻.無知和東大街的混亂》(The Wild,The Inncocent And The E.Steet Shuffle)仍然沒有達到預期的結果。 1974年，東大街樂隊組成了更理想的陣容，實力大大加強，新加盟的有鋼琴家洛易.比坦、鼓手馬克斯威伯和鍵盤手丹尼.費德裏西。1975年又增加了吉它手斯坦福.範.紮德特，原有的鍵盤師和鼓手也都換了人。

1975年9月，Bruce Springsteen在新專輯《爲跑而生》(Born to Run)終於沖上了排行榜的第三位，他本人則成爲舉世公認的搖滾樂明星。10月，Bruce Springsteen的照片同時在《時代》(Time)和《新星期》(Newweek)兩家雜誌上刊出，名氣大振。就在這一年，爲擴大影響，Bruce Springsteen和他的樂隊不失時機地在美國的各地不斷地舉行巡迴演出。 接著，他們又創造了令人驚奇的成績： 1978年，《城鎮邊緣的黑暗》(Darkness on the Edge of Town)進入排行榜的第5位。獲金唱片獎和白金唱片獎。該專輯主要是反映以往的問題，是一張充滿憂鬱的專輯。15年後，該作品仍在樂壇上佔有一席之位。

1979年，現場演出專輯《不要原子能》問世。 1980年，《河流》(the River)高踞排行榜首，銷售極爲火爆。 1982年，《內布拉斯加》(Nebraka)排行榜第三，《饑渴的心》（Hungry Heart）也進入了前十名。 1984年，《誕生在美國》(Born in the U.S.A)在美國排行榜榜首停留了7周，銷量超過了1，200萬張。而在英國排行榜上停留了兩年半之久。

Springsteen是“拯救非洲難民”（USA for Africa）活動的參與者之一，他與邁克.傑克遜等明星一齊演唱了We Are the World。 1986年，從10年來的曲目中，Bruce Springsteen挑選了一些精品，推出了一張精選集（Live 1975-1985）。它又穩居排行榜首達7周之久。Bruce Springsteen的藝術生涯如日中天。
