In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains

當我寂寞難耐的時候
我在那兒得到不少安慰

後來，我開始整理冬天的衣物
盼望自己早已離開，回到家去
故鄉不會像紐約的寒冬使我淌血
指引我，往回家的路上

空地上，一位拳擊手站立著
一位職業戰士
他牢記著每一次教訓
每一個將他擊倒或使他痛苦哀號的手套痕跡
在憤怒與羞愧中
(他喊著)"我就要離開這裡了！"
然而，戰士依然留在那兒……

PS.賽門與葛芬柯( Simon and Garfunkel )，被譽為美國最偉大的二重唱。其中才華洋溢的保羅賽門( Paul Simon )負責作曲，嗓音高亢清亮的亞特葛芬柯( Art Garfunkel )則擔任大部分的主唱。除了「沉默之聲」、「惡水上的大橋」等經典名曲，描述貧民區的孩子隻身到紐約奮鬥的「The boxer」，雖然不像前面兩首歌曲具有高知名度，卻同樣具有優秀的創作品質與情緒感染力。
