灰狼罗伯于1961年加入The Rumors，开启了他的音乐生涯。1971年5月，罗伯发表了个人首张专辑《Introducing Lobo》，1972年的第二张专辑《Of A Simple Man》，是他在美国市场上最畅销的专辑，也是他唯一曾经打进过专辑榜前一百名的作品，虽然最高名次只拿到第三十七名，但是却成功的为他在国际上打开了知名度。1973年，罗伯推出了他的第三张专辑「Calumet」，其中第一首单曲「It Sure Took a Long, Long Time」在美国的排行榜获得第二十七名，而紧接着推出的第二首单曲「How Can I Tell Her」更受欢迎，拿到第二十二名。罗伯以温柔的歌声，唱出了一个「脚踏两条船」的男子心中的仿徨，这首歌曲获得了天下男性广大的支持与迷恋
