莱德·泽普林乐队于1968年9月成立，其前身为当时英国的“庭鸟”乐队,成员为：主音吉它手杰米·佩奇(1944.1.9英国 )、主唱手兼全盛器: 罗伯特·普兰特(1948.8.20 英国)、鼓手约翰·彭汉姆（1948.5.3）,电贝司手约翰·保马·琼斯（1948.6.3）。莱德·泽普林乐队是一支著名的 重金属乐队，重金属音乐产生并流行于60年代，70 年代达到全盛时期，它是这个时代人类对音乐效果最极端的体现。乐队成立不久首次远征美国，在波士顿与其它乐队同场演出，大受注目 ，69年推出首张专辑——《莱德·泽普林》很快进入美国排行榜十佳之列。随后几年接连推出的一系列唱片也都大受欢迎，与此同时， 他们的现场演唱会也场场爆满，盛况空前。正当他们踌躇满志之时，1980年 9月25日鼓手约翰 ·彭汉姆因酗酒而突然暴死，使乐队大伤元气。该乐队于1984年正式解散。莱德·泽普林是摇滚史上最富有传奇色彩的团体之一，被 誉为“重金属之父”。
