第15届多哈亚运会于2006年11月27日至12月15日在卡塔尔首都多哈进行，卡塔尔因此成为了首个承办亚运会的海湾地区国家，也是自1974年德黑兰承办第七届亚运会后再次由西亚国家承办亚运会。多哈是于2000年11月击败中国香港、马来西亚吉隆坡和印度新德里后，获得第十五届亚运会承办权的。在2004年12月31日，多哈亚运会组委会推出了亚运会吉祥物――一只名为奥利的卡塔尔羚羊。

本届亚运会将设包括游泳、射箭、田径、羽毛球、棒球、篮球、斯诺克、健美、保龄球、拳击、皮划艇、自行车、马术、剑术、曲棍球、足球、高尔夫体操、手球、柔道、卡巴迪、空手道、赛艇、橄榄球、帆船、藤球、射击、垒球、软式网球、壁球、乒乓球、跆拳道、网球、排球、举重、摔跤、武术、国际象棋和铁人三项等39个大项423个小项的比赛项目，其中国际象棋和铁人三项是首次被列入亚运会项目，比赛将在20个场馆展开，约有45个国家和地区的近万名选手参加此次盛会。

　　中国自1982年在新德里举行的第九届亚运会起就一直把持奖牌榜头名位置，此次中国代表团也将力争在奖牌榜上完成七连霸壮举，同时也为2008北京奥运会做好备战。上届釜山亚运会中国代表团共获得308枚奖牌，其中金牌150枚银牌84枚铜牌74枚，而第16届亚运会将于2010年在中国广州举行。

截止今天上午，中国军团共获金牌38枚,银牌20枚,铜牌11妹,奖牌总数69枚,列全体参赛国第一的骄人战绩.
