“天鹅绒般的泰迪熊(Velvet Teddy Bear)”的R&B歌手Ruben Studdard在观众最终的2400万张选票中，
以极其微弱的优势压倒了被普遍看好的另一名决赛选手Clay Aiken成为了第一个美国偶像大赛的黑人歌手，
从而也一举登上了著名的《滚石》杂志的封面，成为了最炙手可热的偶像明星。 Ruben Studdard憨厚
的笑容和成熟的嗓音，以及一身运动衫的打扮，打破了美国偶像大赛一直以来以青少年流行偶像占统治性
地位的局面，这项大赛此前的冠军和亚军得主，Kelly Clarkson和Justin Guarini都是青少年流行音乐

Ruben Studdard生于1978年7月14日，出生在美国阿拉巴马州中北部地区的“钢铁之都”伯明翰市。
Ruben Studdard的父母都是教师，他的全名为Christopher Ruben Studdard。从小时候开始，
Ruben Studdard就一直在附近的教堂里边的唱诗班担任领唱，在年龄一点点增大以后，他并没有像
唱诗班里其他成员一样离开演唱的生活而专心于普通的工作，Ruben Studdard下定决心要在音乐领
域干出点成就。在阿拉巴马州的Alabama A&M大学里，Ruben Studdard曾经由于在足球方面
的杰出成绩获得过大学的运动奖学金，他在足球方面的前途一片光明，但是为了自己所钟爱的音
乐，Ruben Studdard毫不犹豫的放弃了在足球领域的似锦前程，而进入了学校的音乐学院主修声乐
课程，并且在2000年非常顺利的拿到了学位证书而毕业，并且从此开始了自己正式的职业音乐历程。
