專輯簡介：

韓德爾將聖經故事戲劇化，配上音樂，成為當時英國相當受歡迎的一種新劇種：神劇。

由於他的音樂風格率直，因此體現出一種莊嚴的合唱曲風味，讓這些神劇中的頌歌與宗教作品顯得相當動人，也使他在英國被視為有史以來最傑出的作曲家。據說「彌賽亞」首演時，當天會場爆滿之外，還有數百人不得其門而入，因此當韓德爾逝世時，共有三千多人參加了他在西敏寺的葬禮，備極哀榮。

但是今天韓德爾的神劇，除了「彌賽亞」之外，已經很少有全曲演出的機會了，不過在這些歌劇與神劇之中仍有許多著名的詠嘆調與合唱曲，例如「哈利路亞」、「韓德爾的最緩版Largo」，以及「凱撒大帝」中的＜熱情的目光＞等名曲，至今仍是演奏會上的常客。
