    Send In The Clowns 唱的是看似平静下的忧伤。该歌曲出自桑岱姆的百老汇音乐剧经典《小夜曲》（A Little Night Music），这部音乐剧取材自瑞典电影大师英格玛柏格曼（Ingmar Bergman）的《夏夜微笑》（Smiles of a Summer Night），描述二十世纪初期瑞典一群男女的浪漫爱情。
    叫小丑进场干吗呢——它来自马戏团情境，马戏团喜欢讲The Show Must Go On.Pink Floyd也曾唱过一首The Show Must Go On。马戏团里不管发生什么状况，出了什么意外，表演是一定要继续的，所以，此刻往往就会有小丑出场，转移大家的注意，继续着场上的欢快。
    既然是马戏团，一开始的Me here at last on the ground and you in mid-air，我终於躺在地上，你还在空中漂荡，指的应该是空中飞人。失恋就像是你纵身一跳，搭档却没有接住你，所以，你躺在那裡，筋摧骨断，满目苍凉。这个时候，一定很痛很狼狈不知所措，所以当然，赶快叫小丑上场。
    歌词既有感慨又有自嘲色彩，但音乐却相当舒展深情，一点没有调侃的味道，反倒让人感到一份饱经沧桑后的心酸和无奈，因而也分外动人。（转载）
