It’s true that music of the "new age" genre gets slammed quite a bit. And let’s face it, some of it is downright awful. I’ve heard my fair share of it over the years. But John Boswell does not fall into that category. All of the tracks on "The Painter" make you sit up and take notice. Totally unpretentious, each note seems perfectly selected for the mood and sense of place Boswell is creating. Much of the rhythms are fluid and melodic, inspired and resonant. There is nothing generic about this music. I think the title itself lets you know what to expect: a masterpiece!
