“大津巴布韦”在班图语中意为“石头城”，是南半球最大的石雕艺术基地。石雕这门艺术在津巴布韦源远流长，已经成为一种当地人的生活传统。在津巴布韦，人们对石头有种天生的敏感，对蛇纹石、孔雀石、乌石、钴石等当地石料的韧度和硬度都非常了解，加之从小耳濡目染自然养成了雕刻石头爱好，可以说每个土著人都是一位石雕艺术家。
