Biography
Ryan Farish is an American electronica artist/producer, songwriter and composer.
Ryan Farish's currently ailable albums include Beautiful (2004), From The Sky (2005),
Everlasting (2006), "Selected Works" and "Selected Works Xpanded" (compilations of
his early works), "Wondell" (2008), "Dancing Angel" (Ryan Farish & Donna Lewis) -
2008 single, and "In This Moment" -2008 Single; Farish has also released independent
albums, including Daydreamer (2002), Beyond the Horizon (2002), and In The Day (2000),
which are now considered collectible. A few of the rare songs from Ryan Farish's early
albums Daydreamer and Beyond the Horizon are featured on Ryan Farish's Selected Works album.
Ryan Farish received a "Dove Award" at the 2008, 39th Annual Gospel Music Awards, for
co-writing the hit Gospel Song, "Listen" - Trin i Tee 57.
Many of Farish's works can be heard on The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s. One of
his songs, "Holding Hands" is featured on The Weather Channel's Smooth Jazz CD released
in October 2007, The Weather Channel Presents: The Best of Smooth Jazz. This compilation
climbed to the Number 1 position, on the Billboard Jazz Album Chart, and features Ryan
Farish along with Jazz superstars Chick Corea, D Koz, Najee, and Jeff Lorber to name a few.
Album review
Ryan Farish is one of the most popular purveyors of easy listening electronica in the
United States, even though most people don't know his name. Where most listeners he
experienced Farish's music is on the Weather Channel, which features his compositions
regularly during the Local on the 8's forecast, as well as on the intro to Storm Stories.
As his name has risen in profile, his site on mp3.com has gotten a steadily increasing
number of hits, and his debut album Beautiful ended up on Billboard's Top Ten chart for
new age music. His third album finds him exploring more extensively the sounds of live
instruments; Everlasting prominently features string arrangements and electric bass along
with the usual electronic chord washes and percussion. Farish's sound is still a bit on
the goopy side, a problem that he could largely clear up if he'd eliminate the shimmery
aura of reverb and delay around his piano, but there are some very fine moments on this
album: "Sing to You" benefits from a U2-ish bassline, crunchy breakbeats rough up the
edges on the otherwise rather saccharine "Together We Will Conquer," "Young at Heart"
nicely juxtaposes his shimmery piano sound with tough, jungle-inflected breakbeats, and
"Time Between Us" combines choral vocals and a rubbery trip-hop beat to fine effect.
Nothing earthshaking here, but a very nice listen overall.
